IT IS A MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR THE PARTICIPANTS
Project LET’S Go! focuses on participants’ learning experience. Instead of measuring how much participants “give” or “help” our participants actually “gain” cultural competence, leadership techniques, critical thinking skills, and perspectives and inspirations that enhance personal growth.
IT IS ABOUT AUTHENTIC ENGAGEMENT IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Schools working with Project LET’S Go! are small ones that are the centers of their small communities. Our participants serve a teacher’s role during school hours, but because the children and their families also host us, we are engaged in all sorts of local activities outside of school hours, such as farm work, neighborhood cleanup, and council meetings.
IT IS TO EMPOWER BOTH THE PARTICIPANTS AND THE CHILDREN
Project LET’S Go! participants normally enter the program with their own academic pursuits, such as action research, field survey, or experiential learning assignments, and complete the program with a better understanding, deeper reflection, and stronger skills. Children in the poor schools are provided with rare opportunities in English language learning and cross cultural interactions. With our long-term presence, children that “graduated” and “left” the communities return home and become “teaching assistants in training” of Project LET’S Go! as a way of giving back to their own communities.
